Mk3 Intro

The Mk3 was bought from near Levin in the lower North Island of NZ.

I was impressed with the originality of the mighty Mk3 - so many of these were got to by the boy-racers of the day.  Still very standard mechanically and the body is in great shape for its age.

The fuel tank was leaking and no clutch (slave cyl), so I loaded it on the trailer (thanks Jono) for the long trip back to Wainui.

I've tidied up & painted the engine bay and many of the under-bonnet fittings because there was a lot of surface rust and worn
paint.

It's a good place to start if you want the car running reliably - just a few new gaskets and a general tidy-up/service of the motor and she starts & runs great.

Other jobs needed to get it running reliably included rebuilding the brakes (hoses, calipers, cylinders, servo, etc.), new diff bearings, tidying electrics, new radiator, etc, etc.

Carpets were rotten and I cleaned out everything from mummified mice & their droppings to used condoms that had been shoved down behind the back seat.  How much am I getting paid for this, again?

New underfelt & carpet tidies up the interior - and makes it smell better too.

The car will be in use while a sort of "rolling restoration" goes on.  This suits the owner (who just wants to drive it, man!) and the car itself, because it is basically very sound bodily & mechanically, so a total resto isn't really called for at this stage.
